The GC Original Toner Cartridge Chip is a replacement reset chip (also called toner chip or cartridge chip) for the Lexmark 56F series black toner cartridges used in the Lexmark MX321, MX421, MS321 and MS421 printers and related MS / MX 521 / 621 / 622 models.

Each cartridge carries a small chip that stores its identity, region and page count, and the printer reads it. When the cartridge reaches its page count, the chip tells the printer it is empty, even if toner remains. Fitting a new chip resets the cartridge, so a refilled or newly built cartridge is accepted.

A faulty or used-up chip can cause:
